Charlotte Kickoff Night Statement Regarding Game Two Cancellation

Safety of the participating kids and spectators was the top priority first and foremost. There were lighting strikes too close to the Stadium which made the conditions unsafe and resulted in two suspensions of play. By the time the second game could have started it would have been played beyond midnight and into Sunday. The NCHSAA * prohibits play on Sunday of any kind for regular season contests.

The teams could not find a mutually agreed upon make-up date, but did express interest in the possibility of matching up to start the 2019 season.

Needless to say, this is disappointing and frustrating for all parties, including the fans. Many drove long distances to attend. We hope that they enjoyed seeing the first game between two of the best football programs in the state square off, Butler and Scotland High Schools. As stated on the website and on the tickets there is a no refund policy, but there will be a replacement make good offering where tickets can be used. More details to follow in this regard.

As originally planned, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the participating schools, CMS Middle School Athletics and to Teen Cancer America.

* NCHSAA POLICY: No contest under the auspices of the NCHSAA may be staged on Sunday, except for certain cases approved by the NCHSAA in championships.
